Birth Doula Services

Prenatal Visits

It is important for me to meet with you before the birth of your baby, in order to establish a good working relationship, and for you to feel prepared for your birth. During the prenatal period, I can assist you in the following ways:
  • discuss your pregnancy, past experience with birth, and address any fears or questions you may have
  • discuss your wishes for birth and assist with creating a birth plan
  • provide you with information you need, as you make decisions for your birth
  • provide you with access to my lending library, which includes various reading on birth and breastfeeding
  • rehearse position changes and comfort measures for labor
  • review the roles of everyone involved in your birth

Labor Support

When you decide that you need my labor support, I will remain with you continuously through your labor and birth, and provide support to you and your partner in the following ways:
  • physical (nonmedical support) for the laboring mom, which includes position changes, breathing and relaxtation techniques, massage, counterpressure, hip squeezes and acupressure.
  • emotional support which includes addressing any fears, reviewing the birth process, and making sure you and your partner are comfortable with all of your birth choices.
  • informational support as needed, which will be drawn from various website sources, my experience or the experience of other birth professionals, various information from my training, and my lending library.
My overall goal in your labor is to enable YOU to advocate for yourself and YOUR birth plan. In the event that you do decide to change your plans for various reasons, I can support you through that as well. While I can't promise that your birth will unfold a certain way, I can promise to offer loving and nonjudgmental support through the process.

Postpartum Care

I will remain with you 1-2 hours after the birth of your baby, and provide support with any postpartum needs. I can also assist with basic breastfeeding help and encouragement.

After you have your baby, I also provide you with one an in home visit to see how you and the baby are doing, review the birth experience, receive feedback on my services, provide a head start with postpartum recovery, and discuss any need for additional support.
